Been on a writing kick last week, wrote 2 poems and a song...yes, a song ;) Feeling my creativity returning, loving to write and enjoying the work with rhyming and fitting words and thoughts together. Been way too long, and I have Ben's cousins to thank for dragging it back out of me! So here's the short one I wrote to and about my True Treasures...those who uplift me and are so dear to me and mine...love ya!
True Treasures
There are those who will hurt you with their lies
Condemn, tear down, belittle, and criticize,
What you stand for, what path you choose,
Makes no difference your “why”, they win, you lose.
There are those who care and are kind--true friends,
Who will affirm, build up, a blessing to the end.
Who will listen, advise, encourage without stop,
Love unconditionally and support even when you flop.
Does no good to listen and hang on to complainers
Just cut ties from those negative energy drainers.
Keep close to your heart those who understand you well
Who share your laughter, tears and secrets to tell.
For whom secrets stay secrets with them indeed,
Quick to protect, defend, always there when you need.
These truest of friends who lift up when you’re down
Are rare treasures to hold dear, when they are found.

The Garden Forlorn
I love poetry and writing and stories and books. All of which have taken a bit of a backseat while I've been a mom. Well, some cousins of Ben's happen to be like minded and they have fun doing random poetry on each others facebook status' and I started joining in and such FUN!~ Loving it! They have also been encouraging my oldest who has gotten a FEW things from me :) Photography gene, poetry writing, and love of books...the good ones like Anne of Green Gables and Jane Austen and is currently reading Les Miserables! Ok, confession: I actually HAVEN'T read Les Mis yet but it's on my list and we DID discuss it in French class a :::cough::: few yrs ago! LOL!
I thought I'd share my favorite poem that I wrote. Back story....this poem was for an assignment and as most of my writing assignents were, so last minute, and so much better that way!! As in after-dinner-the-night-before-it-is-due last minute ;o) And yes, I did get an A! I came in the dining room where my parents, grandparents and uncle were all visiting and shared what I had just written to rave reviews, my uncle especially liked it.
In order to generate more money, our year book began "ads" for the senior w/their picture and things like "Congratulations" or "We are so proud of you", inspirational things, etc. Some were brother/sister, some had baby pictures. Well, my uncle really loved my poem, so my family shared space and did one all together and added my poem to it! I guess I can say I have a published poem! hahaha! Anyway, enough about the poem....
Forgotten and still,
Because of a world's
Faulty Ideal.
It used to be tended,
With love and care,
Saved from the weeds,
That now flourish there,
But alas, by and by,
The gardener's hand
Could no longer care
For the flowers grand.
The innocent young flowers
The weeds did covet.
The world rushed on by
And thought nothing of it.
"Someone else'll take care
Of them and kill the weeds,"
As they turned their backs,
The flowers did bleed.
So it is with Life,
(If we let it be).
We'll get nothing back
But weeds you see.
We can't make it alone,
I know a Friend,
Loving and caring,
He'll be to the end.
He can't be found
In worldly pleasures,
But once He is found,
In HIM you'll treasure.
So, don't heed the troubles
And cares of this world,
Or words of others
Unkindly hurled.
For if you do,
Your life'll be torn,
Overrun by "weeds"
Like the garden forlorn.
~Rebecca Ann Farrar (1988---I think ;o))
I need to write more poetry...I enjoy it and I miss writing! I'm finding even the silly rhyming for fun a bit therapeutic! Plus, at my age I need to do something to keep the little gray cells working (little Hercule Poirot there for my fellow bibliophiles).

Spring Forward and Skype-ing
Well, we're all dragging this morning and all day. Not only is it that "lovely" time of year when the clocks moved forward (more on THAT later), but there entails a joyful reason for our excessive lack of sleep. All started when we were pleasantly surprised (and BLESSED) with the amazing gift of a webcam that arrived by UPS Friday. Between my own lack of full computer know-how and the age of both myself and my aged laptop, it took me til Saturday evening to connect! ;o)
I'll spare you all the embarrassing (to me) details but suffice it to say that I did fall asleep Friday night (wee hrs of Sat) while it was "installing" (akin to watching water boil but much longer) and thus had the space bar and ALT keys firmly tatooed on my head for a few hrs...much to the merriment of my sweet children! Yet, still--somehow--we had no video via the camera. I worked on it some more after errands Saturday all to naught and again I think it's due to the age of this laptop but we had success with the audio part and chatted LIVE on Skype (free phone call) with our benefactor!! Ben's younger cousin, Ryan, currently stationed in Korea has been chatting via Facebook chat (typed words) with us and now we can Skype! Last night and this morning we had an enlightening chat from everything about favorite desserts and songs to what life was like there in Korea. Ryan thru FB video shared what the Korean currency looked like and explaining it to us while on Skype chat. After 7.5 hrs he also got to see how silly we get when tired and had heard from all the cousins, including baby Levi and even Ben before we finished.
Wonderful windows are opened now. We have family in Japan, Bangladesh, friends in China and missionary friends in Trinidad. Not only can we "see" them and talk to them in person now through this new gift, but our children can see glimpses of other countries/cultures more intimately than they ever could just from a book! The crew is also excited that our neighbor JoAnn who was like a grandma to them has Skype so now that she is in Idaho, we can video chat with her too! Though no more marathons! Part of the time was trying to problem solve the video issue but we gave up on that finally!
As to my thoughts on the time change....this little quote sums up my thoughts well...

:o) Well, I have to finish working on our tax return and then clearing off the desk in here to make room for the newer computer so we can set up webcam with proper (insert computer-eze here needed to make it work LOL)!
By the way, anyone reading this that is a IRL (in real life) family member/friend with Skype you can email me becca95@centurytel.net with your Skype name and we can connect ;o)
I want to leave with a scripture from my desk I just read...
"If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ."
~ 1 Peter 4:11
Reminded me of cousin Ryan and so many others we know who serve our country! And good reminder for all of us!
Blessings!
